Life of Pi: Humans Relationship with Animals
Life of Pi, a novel written by Yann Martel and directed by Ang Lee, is a perfect example of a bond that has been created unwillingly. It is a movie that made people believe in God once more and gave them a better understanding about a bond that had been created between two different species. Pi, the only survivor of the shipwreck, was forced to undertake in a difficult journey with a Bengal tiger on a boat for 227 days. Pi practiced three religions Hindu, Christianity, and Islam and always kept a strong connection between him and God. He had to make a painful decision to eat a fish that he had caught in order for him to survive, and it was his only choice, but he stayed a vegetarian afterwards. It was difficult at first, but after Pi realized no one was coming to rescue them, so he had to show the tiger who was the leader. After some time, Pi trained Richard Parker-the tiger-and everything went well and better than he had imagined. Pi could see the soul of the tiger within the tiger’s eyes, and that was when they had formed a spiritual connection amongst one another. After Pi was rescued, he realized that Richard Parker was sent to him by God, because without Richard Parker he would not have coped with the death of his family and survived on that boat. Richard Parker gave him a reason to live and it kept Pi alarmed. Pi faced those difficulties in order for him and the tiger to become one.
Animals have been on this beautiful land longer than humans have been on it. The way some of us treat animals and disregard them to any importance of the land, is distressing and painful. We humans are the ones that have the upper hand, because of the bulldozers and cages we have built. Animals will always be the innocent ones, even the wildest animals. I believe whatever is on this land was put for a reason by the one who has created the world. Every living soul has a part to play and the animals included.
